Masked Singer S3 – Big Reveal

After many weeks of spectacular sing-offs and surprise unmaskings of Mzansi superstars, the remaining four dazzling Masks will put their best costumed foot forward this week to win the competition and the coveted Masked Singer South Africa Season 3 trophy. Will it be Mosquito, Chopsticks, Spotty or Gogga? And who are the mysterious big-name personalities behind these masks?

During the finale, on Saturday, 26 September at 19:00, the disguises will drop one by one after more rounds of deciding performances, culminating in the ultimate reveal – the face of this season’s champion.

The show’s regular panel of supersleuths – J’Something, Somizi, Sithelo Shozi and Skhumba, have tried to dissect all the cryptic clues dropped by the elusive finalists.  Until the masks come off, it also remains unclear whether this season’s inquisitive guest detectives – Jason Goliath, Moshe Ndiki, Tbo Touch and Zee Nxumalo – have muddled the waters further or pointed the panel in the right direction.

Masked Singer Contestant – Gogga

This adorable creepy-crawly’s voice is anything but croaky. Gogga can sing!

Gogga confessed that her name travels faster when carried by a chant, she is also a curious critter – a trait that has apparently led her into very strange rooms, including the science laboratory in her clue packages, where a Nobel Prize once popped up. A groundbreaker from her hometown, she studied alongside a certain hippo, and it really bugs Gogga when someone scratches their teeth. Throughout the season, Gogga’s clues have been adorned with crowns.

The show’s sweet, pink-haired, fluffy creature has two stings in her tail: her superpowers are strength and patience, but she’s also a bit of a scatterbrain, and time management can swat her away.

Among the visuals landing in Gogga’s case file were a crying emoji, a flamenco dancer, and a night sky filled with stars.

Masked Singer Contestant – Spotty

Spotty’s beautiful bark has convinced the detectives, including muso J’Something, more than once that she must be a famous singer. But Spotty has also thrown out many bones they might not have caught.

In her first clue package, set against the backdrop of a children’s drawing and a house named “Spotty’s Rock Pad”, the cuddly star hinted that her greatest hero never wore a cape, but she made his kennel warm every day. But why did she also say she’s been something of a law enforcer from an early age?

Among the more obvious clues Spotty shared during the season were those about her litter. One of her sister pups shares a name with a world-famous model, and while Spotty’s own success story has a missing chapter, it has always been part of a full collective with two sisters. This missing chapter might be linked to Spotty wagging the words that an injury never stopped her from running towards a beautiful sunrise. During the season, Spotty also shared that her favourite childhood memory is a bittersweet seaside holiday, that at home loyalty greets her on four legs, that she’s danced with kings and queens, and that one might say she travels without moving and speaks the loudest when silent.

In the semi-final, Spotty’s mystery box items were a model car of a white BMW 325i, an African mask, a soft-serve vanilla ice-cream and a photo of the Mandela Bridge.

Masked Singer Contestant – Mosquito

Hyper-active Mosquito has created quite a buzz with his delightfully infectious performances. This is clearly a big Mosquito. His wings are impressive, his popularity is huge, with autograph signings, and his body stands tall. This physical height clue has helped the detectives eliminate several hidden celebrity possibilities.

Meanwhile, Mosquito comes from a swarm of famous Mosquitos, and this role model’s daddy had also been flying high. This Masked Singer South Africa’s beloved bug began soaring in 2020.

Set against the backdrop of a fairground at night, Mosquito also admitted in his clue packages that he loves to test out his mosquito skills every now and then, but that he knew from a young age he was drawn to the spotlight, and, in true Mosquito-style, has been here, there and basically everywhere. Over the years, he has stung into some incredible gems and sometimes mixes pleasure with business. Adding to the detectives’ notes, this self-confessed national hero also revealed that he was born in one of South Africa’s oldest performances, and that his aunt gave him and his siblings their nicknames.

Moreover, his mystery box included a pair of white trainers, a wedge of cheese, a ring light and the star sign for Gemini.

Masked Singer Contestant – Chopstix

Chopsticks clickety-clacked out her story with cryptic clues, the detectives picked up on the fact that she might be an “It-girl” and a social butterfly. But the Japanese links to her Masked character sometimes didn’t stack up. Her singing voice impressed!

In her stylised clue packages depicting a variety of iconic South African landscapes, Chopsticks shared that her name carries beams of beauty and a touch of big-city fire, and that she studied the art of making you glow long before filters existed. Transformation and evolution were definitely key to Chopsticks’ revelations.

Chopsticks also shared that her feet barely touch the ground, that her love life has been a blockbuster, and that while others settled into a traditional career, her ambitions were set on boundless freedom and the affluence to enjoy it. While the world watched the spectacle that’s her life, she quietly assembled plans behind the scenes.

She is famous for leaving breadcrumbs and watching the world catch.

Chopsticks added that she bruises easily. The same softness that saves people has also been the easiest way to wound her.

This radiant Mask has always shown resilience and strength, and she stopped counting headlines. And, as far as her parents were concerned, one was her mountain and the other her mirror, while her gogo in a rural village shaped her character.

In Chopsticks’ semi-final mystery box was a model of a mini-bus taxi, a plate of sushi, socks with a sushi design, a neon sign with the word “love” and a gold CD.

The Masked Singer South Africa Season 3 airs on SABC 2 on Saturday, 26 September at 19:00, with repeats on SABC 1 on Thursday at 21:00 and SABC 2 on Friday at 13:30.
