Episode 13 Reveals the Mask

The Mask bouncing around on stage as the friendly, furry-faced Spotty was dancer and choreographer Bontle Modiselle.

Bontle also made her mark as a television presenter, actress, creative director and entrepreneur. She follows in the masked footsteps of previous winners Holly Rey and Warren Masemola.

Coming from a musical family she thought that perhaps she could at least hold a note, but this pooch can sing!

“I always hoped I could …”, says Bontle, and jokingly adds, “Apparently I can win a singing competition!”

Runner-Up Mosquito Out Of His Net

Runner-up Mosquito came out of his net and was revealed as the massive crowd-puller, content creator, award-winning dancer, musician and television presenter Robot Boii.

Chopstix Social Butterfly

Chopsticks and Mosquito performed “APT.” by Rosé and Bruno Mars in the first battle, J’Something reckoned Chopsticks was actress Nandi Madida.

Sithelo and Skhumba clicked that Chopsticks was Khanyi, stating that this fabulous Mask was clearly a tastemaker, social butterfly and a red-carpet regular.

J’Something did not crack the Chopsticks case, but he managed to pin down Gogga after weeks of recognising Judith Sephuma’s vocal artistry beneath those pink dreadlocks.

Gogga – J-Something Recalls

When Gogga was unmasked after losing the face-off against Spotty to their performance of Brandy and Monica’s “The Boy Is Mine”, J’Something recalled his real-life interactions with Gogga. He knew for sure that she was Judith because he used to set up her rehearsal room back in the day.

Meanwhile, Somizi latched onto a clue about “cinematic greatness”, which led him to Hans Zimmer, the composer of The Lion King’s score. From there, he connected Gogga to his close friend Judith Sephuma.

However, Sithelo and Skhumba missed the mark.

Sithelo noted that Gogga was from her own hometown and part of a quartet and guessed actress Nomzamo Mbatha. Skhumba then quipped that if Sithelo thought Gogga was Nomzamo Mbatha, he would declare that she was Dr Rebecca Malope.

Final Battle

After the final battle, in which Mosquito and Spotty set the stage alight with “Drive” by Black Coffee and David Guetta, Somizi was moved to exclaim that this had been the best finale ever, anywhere in the world, in the history of The Masked Singer. For once, the detectives were unanimous in their conviction that Mosquito was Robot Boii.

J’Something had been barking up the wrong, believing Spotty to be radio and television presenter Pabi Moloi, but this time, he was torn between Bontle Modiselle and singer-songwriter Boohle.

Sithelo ascertained that The Masked Singer South Africa’s goodgirl was Generations star Vatiswa Ndara, while Skhumba settled on sports broadcaster Motshidisi Mohono.

Somizi sniffed out the truth: Spotty was Bontle Modiselle!

Winner Bontle said The Masked Singer South Africa meant al lot to her: “I had fun and the time of my life, and, you know, the 8-year-old me who was insecure and didn’t think she was able or capable was validated for thirteen weeks.”

After identifying Khanyi Mbau, Lasizwe and Judith Sephuma, Somizi claimed the Golden Ear.
