HERMANUS – A community march for 27 AUGUST 2026 was made public by The .Women of Zwelihle and Concerned Residents

The Women of Zwelihle and Concerned Residents have notified the Municipality of a community march on Thursday, 27 August 2026, commencing at 09:00.

The march will start at the Zwelihle Sport Grounds and proceed via Swartdam Road to the Overstrand Municipality, where the organisers intend to hand over a memorandum of demands and engage with the Municipality regarding municipal services, electricity, municipal accounts and the treatment of residents and taxpayers.

The matters they wish to raise with the community march include:

• Review of the current indigent support system and consideration of a fair and affordable flat rate for RDP households
• Immediate review of auxiliary charges appearing on residents’ municipal accounts
• Urgent resolution of the Dubai electricity matter, including its reported impact on electricity in the Old Location and Zwelihle Hostels
• Review of old rental accounts and outstanding balances, including disputed or outdated amounts
• Fair, respectful and professional treatment of residents and taxpayers when dealing with municipal officials
• Transparency and accountability regarding municipal charges and service delivery
• Investigation into the possibility of residents purchasing electricity directly from Eskom rather than through Overstrand Municipality, where legally and technically possible
• Improved service delivery and replacement of broken wheelie bins. Residents report that the last wheelie bins were received in 2011 and that many of the existing bins are now broken and need replacement
• A clear and fair solution for residents who have two houses registered in their names, particularly where this creates financial difficulties with municipal charges or services
• A permanent solution to the Dubai electricity matter, which residents believe is affecting the wider Old Location community

Motorists and other road users are advised to expect temporary road closures and traffic disruptions along the route while the march is in progress.
