The Brink family and their friends make mistakes, fall in love, lose their way and help each other try again in the second season of Reënboogrant, which begins on Friday 28 August at 18:30 on kykNET (DStv channel 144).
“I would describe the second season as a pursuit of success, love, identity and a struggle to be heard,” says André Velts, director and creative producer of the series.
Reënboogrant resumes during the December holidays, in the tragic aftermath of Moniqué’s accident at the river diving pool. While her friends try to make sense of what exactly happened, everyday life goes on: school reports are handed out, new studies and job opportunities beckon, and old relationships become complicated.
“We are excited about the series’ return to kykNET and advise viewers to fasten their seatbelts, because the adventures and challenges for the Brink family in this season get rougher and tougher,” says Soné Combrinck, co-producer at Sonvelt Media, the company responsible for the series.
For Shani Brink (Minke Marais), the year becomes a whirlwind of romantic challenges. She is still in love with surfer Dave Watkeys (Jean Henry), while Johan Viljoen (Righard van Jaarsveld) isn’t ready to let their relationship go. When Jacques Bronkhorst (Vian Singleton) reappears, Shani’s heart – and her friendships – become even more complicated. Her ambition to prove herself lands her in situations where she has to learn hard lessons.
Meanwhile, her brother, Dolf Brink (Paul Strydom), tries to process the emotional aftermath of the river pool tragedy. Between university, work and his beloved Beetle, he tries to move on, but when Rachelle Labuschagne (Marelee Ferreira) returns to Reënboogrant with secrets from her past, his life is in turmoil once again.
For Sunette Brink (Mila de Villiers), the new year brings athletics, academic opportunities and more than one potential new love interest. The talented music prodigy Jaco (Louis Auret) gives her a new perspective, while the young teacher and athletics coach Leon Tredoux (Liam Bosman) unexpectedly sets her heart racing. Sunette’s world expands, and she is forced to make important decisions about her future.
However, it is not only the Brinks facing challenges. Johan’s obsessive pursuit of athletic success begins to carry dangerous consequences. Japie Coetzee (Danté Elliot) and Hardus Bronkhorst’s (Jacques Gombault) get-rich-quick scheme gets them deeper into trouble. Meanwhile, Marius Naudé (Wilco Meyer), Lizane Jacobs (Deidré Barnard), Bongi Buthelezi (Johnny Potsanyane) and the rest of the group of friends are also confronted with new relationships, difficult truths and personal challenges.
